You Should Not Listen to Expert Bloggers – Part 1

*You should read this and this after this article.
Are you a newbie on blogging? You must have been looking for those resources online that will help you improve your blog’s traffic. Me too. As you can see my website has only about 3 months worth of articles and I know I still have so much to learn in blogging. Just like me, you must have also been scouting for hundreds of other successful blogs out there to look for the best possible information and tips to increase your page views, your traffic and eventually your ad clicks. Sure there are really many websites out there that are good sources of info but I guess they are all being overrated. What do I mean? I know hidden and deep inside these bloggers’ hearts, competition is the number one thing. And that reason is enough for you not to listen to expert bloggers, at least to some of them. I will be writing this article in a three part group because I want to elaborate on the dark tactics of expert bloggers. First in this installment, we will talk about their tips to use “localized keywords”.
I stumbled upon one website that talks about using specific keywords that targets a geographic location. The main goal is to use keywords especially targeted towards a group of Google searchers in a particular country, say for example in the Philippines. The blogger said that by using specific localized keywords, you will tend to rank higher in the Google.com.ph engine. He even provided snapshots of his success in this kind of SEO. But why you should not listen to this advice? Well it may be true that you can rank higher or highest in a localized search using a localized keyword but that’s all about it. For us newbie, we do not have this kind of luxury, the person is already an established blogger for about 3 years. Therefore even if you will try to use highly localized keywords, the tendency is that you will still be eclipsed by the other blogsites, like his own, and you will not be able to rank high. Remember that Google also considers the authority factor of the site which may be a combination of the blog’s age, link backs and overall number of contents. So how will you fare? Tell me.
If you will simply target localized keywords based on his suggestions, then he has the freedom to choose other international target keywords because statistically, he will have lesser competition thanks to your foolishness. So I suggest that you make sure you have a combination of local and international keywords in your contents. Do not be fooled by these suggestions because at the end, blogging will always involve competition for money. Business is business and at some point, these established bloggers who have already been raking in money for the past years, do not care much about us newbie.
Does it mean I should not listen to ALL expert bloggers’ advices? No I did not tell you that. What I want to say is that you should be careful in accepting the expert bloggers’ tips because some of them are really useful while some are also malicious. Read between the lines. Do not merely take any advices from these professional and expert bloggers without analyzing their sincerity to help you establish your own site. I still have two more installments for this series you should not listen to expert bloggers; so if you want to be updated, simply bookmark this page or subscribe to my feed and you won’t miss the other two articles.

Oh, those expert bloggers, later they want to sell out and earn from small bloggers because of their non-sensible advices. But I listened and take advice from an expert blogger who I’ve known for a long time and I’ve followed his success.
I cannot just think which keywords to use when I write something. It’s not easy for me.

Yes Marlene, I still do read some reliable bloggers’ advices. However, there are also some of them who are really arrogant and would not care about newbies.

What you find is that a lot of expert bloggers recommend products because they get paid to do so. Some disclose this and some don’t.
An example is Aweber, it’s hard to find an unpaid review for it. It’s not that great, although it is good. However, all the paid reviews would have you believe it was created by God Himself. Lol!

If that is the case then it’s still all about money
Some are still reliable but most of these expert bloggers will simply ignore you if you are a newbie. Kinda sad.

Interesting article, but I’ve given up trying to optimize my blog for search engines. It takes too much of my time and the engines keep changing their rankings.

Hi Ken,
thanks for dropping by. It is really time consuming but for now I have to endure the hard work since my site is onyl about 2months old
Comment by riantalk — November 10, 2009 @ 6:43 am
I guess the question is how we digest the information and decide whether it suits us or not. Not all tips shared work well for everyone. ^^ Although I do appreciate the experts sharing their experiences and certain things we need to emphasis while learning to blog. For a new blogger I think you do quite well. I’m sure you’ll have a lot to offer in future. Best wishes and keep it up.
Appreciate you dropping by my blog earlier.

Dear Ching Ya,
No problem, thanks too. Well I guess you are a very good blogger but not one of them hehe. Hope we can share good tips with each other. Thanks again.

sometime expert blogger just don’t want to give so much advice (free), and try to convince small time blogger to buy his/her book to learn more.. i rather google it rather than buy a book.. sometime i find more info on medium blogger instead of top blogger.
Comment by izzat aziz — November 11, 2009 @ 4:41 am
It is because these expert bloggers have been corrupted with only money making in their minds. Yes, I find more useful information among not so expert bloggers.

That’s perfectly fine. We all have our own opinions and it is NEVER a requirement to pay respect to anyone in this world
Have you read his article about the so called freedom of speech? hehehe.
Logic for you: If your site is new, then expect it to have PR 0
Comment by riantalk — November 13, 2009 @ 12:51 am
Logic? You said your site is three months old? I have PR3 site in 1 month thanks to *****’s tips. I might agree with one thing, you earned yourself a PR3 link for this post. But let me guess, you’re still earning cents right?
Comment by Ian Edzone — November 13, 2009 @ 3:07 am
Yup I am only earning $0.00 in Adsense and I don’t care. Ian, I appreciate your comments here and I don’t have any bitterness for you. By visiting my site you even add up to my traffic and page views. Thank you.

It is true the main purpose of the article is to linkbait beneath an opinion. And it has served the purpose because the blogger admitted biting the bait even though he had the option to just ignore it. Credibility is not a big deal for me, I can still write a lifetime even if I don’t earn a cent, there is no such thing as bad publicity. Thanks for the comment
Cheers.

Yeah, tama ka. At kitang kita naman na sinasabihan nya na lagyan nga trackback yung mga post nya. Meaning, mas maraming blogger, mas maraming link pointing to him using the trackbacks.

When I was still very new about SEO, I read the e-book made by Macuha and Z. Diaz. As a newbie I learned a lot from them but I also found some flaws in their e-book as I go along and experiment different SEO techniques. I appreciate that they made such guide and shared their knowledge to beginners like most of us. Obviously by creating such an e-book, additional traffic and backlinks will be sent to their blogs. But who wouldn’t want that? I can’t blame them, I’m sure they’re not expecting to get paid through peanuts with their effort.
A part of me agrees that some of these so-called “experts” take advantage of the naivety of newbie bloggers but I won’t be quick to criticize and accuse them of something without enough basis to support such claims.
Most about life is about competition. Whining definitely won’t win points. If we have enough time to criticize other people we should also have enough time to make ourselves better.

Comment by Brix — December 10, 2009 @ 1:25 am
Brix thanks for the visit. That’s why I’ve decided to allocate 30% of my time believing in these “experts’” advices and 70% time in common sense. Now I just apply my personal knowledge on how search engines behave and apply my common sense on how to tap it. I have created my own techniques in increasing my ad clicks (not traffic) without relying much on other bloggers’ tips. I have found a much better way to do this without having to increase traffic and its kinda fun
I have not read this tip from any other blogs out there, it is my own experiment but it is working bit by bit.
See you around.
I guess it’s worth sharing a hint. *When you write your articles, make sure you are “not giving” what the visitors need or searching for.
Gets?
Comment by riantalk — December 10, 2009 @ 2:36 am
I agree you on this. macuha is a joke. It’s not the traffic, you can get 1000 visitors and 100 clicks and still end up earning 1 dollar, y? because not all keywords have high CPCs.
Comment by SEOfreak — April 25, 2010 @ 3:38 pm
Yup, I no longer believe in traffic. Right now I am still getting decent 200+ per day (a far cry from 3 visits/day back in September last year). However, this 200+/day is giving me much better proportional clicks that converts to earnings, at a rate that I am happy with (I won’t disclose how much hehe). At the end of the day, it is about the way you place the ads, the “enticing” factor for the visitors to click them and the overall visual appeal of the pages that will give you good earnings. It is not all about traffic. Thanks for the input SEOfreak
